Evarin

The Deity of Knowledge – Evarin

“Some seek to share all knowledge with anyone interested. Still others question what discoveries are safe for others to know. But knowledge is not concerned with such quandaries, only that it is not forgotten.” - Faithful of Evarin

Tenets

  1. Do not pass up the opportunity to learn

  2. Do not teach your enemy with your words or what you possess

  3. Seek to confirm knowledge

  4. Keep all knowledge safe

  5. Keep record of the happenings and deeds that occur around you

The Deity of Knowledge, Evarin, guides people to all knowledge and they must make the choice of what to do with it but never have it destroyed. There is much to be unearthed from the past, and much to be learned from the present.

The faithful of Evarin have visions and dreams there are often a pile of books or scrolls, sometimes both, or other sources of knowledge. Regardless, on top of these sources of knowledge is a bright flame from a source of light such as a candle or a torch. Half of the source of knowledge is in the light while the other half is hidden within the darkness representing either more knowledge needs light shined upon it or secrets that should remain hidden.

There are many of the faithful of Evarin among the Erudite and Sun Elves due to their quick learning and adaptability. It is believed that the faithful of Evarin were responsible for beginning the Calendar when they learned once more to track the sun, stars, and moon.

The faithful are focused on the preservation of knowledge in a very harsh world. They work together during the Age of Alliance to finally create hidden places of schooling, worship, and knowledge called Archives. Some are made within abandoned ruins and others caves. They understand it is too dangerous to keep all knowledge in one place in the event of an attack from enemies such as the Void or natural disaster. They keep the Archives small and focused on specific studies. To gain access, one would have to seek permission from a Councilor, a leader of the faith or teacher. Outsiders would have to build trust with the faithful and gather references that are held in high regard. These are extremely guarded places and difficult to find without a guide.

Students usually spend a year in the Archive undisturbed to focus on their learning, with very little contact with the outside world. Time is of the essence in Nyrea and to have the ability to study in an Archive is difficult to earn and a rare privilege. Attacks can still happen at any time. They will not be permitted into another Archive easily. They are expected to apply the knowledge they have learned and obtain further references for their next Archive.

There are two schools of thought in this faith. There are those that believe that knowledge must be shared everywhere. They may become teachers at outposts and towns training others to keep public records. They may also become bards sharing stories and songs which is more common among many transient people that do not have the time and resources to always create records.

Then there are those who believe that not all knowledge should be shared for reasons such as it being lost or destroyed or the power it wields. Learning and watching the Void Mages has always been a source of contention. There is still much to be learned or uncovered. Many of these faithful train to search for hidden knowledge in undiscovered land or abandoned ruins. Regardless of their path, all of the faithful believe in gathering knowledge and continuing their learning no matter where they are because even the spark of a new idea can occur in everyday life.

Symbol: The primary symbol is source of flame above a source of knowledge. The Source of knowledge is half in light and half in shadow.
